LOUISVILLE - SPI Baby, a mid-to high-end case goods and upholstery source, made its ABC Expo debut last month, bringing a collection that was big on graphics, color and style.
The baby and juvenile company was founded earlier this year by Sarah Shetter and Alison Palevsky, interior design partners for the past eight years. The duo said they decided to launch the company after struggling to find nursery and youth furniture that fit the tastes of many of their clients.
"They aren't traditional, but they aren't totally modern, either," Shetter said.
Shetter and Palevsky have developed a line of furniture that includes dressers, chairs, a rocker, ottomans, rugs, metal drawer pulls and a unique upholstered changer/hamper, dubbed the Happy Hamper. The end result is a collection the pair describes as "eclectic modern."

sky say response at the show was positive, with buyers interested in the bold fabrics and painted finishes.
"We're taking traditional and adding a new perspective," Shetter said.
For example, the Mama Rocker, a new addition that retails around $1,400, features a mid-century design with a twist. "It's for people who love mid-century and love bright colors," she explained.
The Happy Hamper, which starts retailing at $985, has a changer on the top, a swing-out hamper section, a drawer and a storage compartment on the side.
Palevsky added that the entire line is suitable for mixing and matching, with a catalog that includes 17 fabric options in solids and prints as well as an array of vivid, high-gloss paint finishes, including bright pink, ocean blue, tangerine orange, lime green, daffodil yellow, apple red, black and ivory. With its clean lines and unfussy look, the pieces in the collection are designed to grow with a child from the newborn stage to the teen years and beyond.
