Begin Smart My Little Baby   Begin Smart Pete's Potty

CHAPPAQUA, N.Y. - Begin Smart's Read-and-Play Program helps start babies on the road to literacy with age-appropriate concepts, simple language, and colorful images. The line helps kids take the next step with books for toddlers ages two to three.

Begin Smart books are designed to enhance motor and cognitive skills and promote interaction between children and caregivers. Perfectly sized for little hands and coded by age level, they appeal to the senses, promote bonding between baby and caregiver, and contribute to the child's intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.

Lily's Potty and Pete's Potty zero in on one of the important milestones for toddlers. The books have lift-the-flap features and child-friendly language that is especially useful as the youngsters get ready for nursery school.

Two other books in this age level, What Shapes Do You See? and What Color is Your Apple? use simple graphics, bright photos, fun die-cuts, and interactive flaps to encourage kids to notice shapes and colors in the world around them.

The content and formats are matched to children's interests and abilities at five developmental levels. For infants up to six months, My Little Baby shows adult and baby animals and the sounds they make. Infants can explore textures in the touch-and-feel elements while learning to track, scan, and focus on objects. Begin Smart Where

For ages six to 12 months, Where's Your Nose? has touch-and-feel elements, and helps babies learn parts of the body.

Kids 12 to 18 months delight in Round Balls, Round Balls, which uses a familiar rhyme to capture the antics of a group of stuffed animals.

And ages 18 months to two years have Counting Duckies, which uses the familiar image and feel of rubber duckies to teach counting. Each lists skills that are addressed and has notes on using the book.

Every Begin Smart book is reviewed by experts in early literacy for content and age-appropriateness. The Web site provides advice from child development experts, tips for creative ways to share Begin Smart books with babies, and an overview of the program.

Begin Smart titles are distributed by Sterling Publishing Co.
