Humphrey Farms is donating $1 to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund for every "spill" it sells.offering of realistic display products. Now he's donating $1 for every "spill" sold to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund.
Bard's company, Humphrey's Farm (formally Bard International) is based in Miami Lakes, Fla. The company got its start after Bard and his father, during a buying trip in Milan 25 years ago, saw "really good" fake apples and bananas being used as display props. The Bards began using realistic fruits and veggies to add life to their home accessories displays. A brother who'd studied to be a chef joined the business and began developing drinks, cakes and pies.
Today the company sells hundreds of realistic food, drink and snack items (most of them made in the USA) to the trade, many of whom are retailers and designers that use them as merchandising and staging props.
The company also makes food and drink spills, popular as a novelty item with gift stores, and as a merchandising aid to help sell fabric protection.
"One of the spills that we have been selling for years is our Motor Oil Bottle Spill," Bard said. "We use recycled generic brands of Motor Oil Bottles, and all of our spills are made here in Miami. We are going to donate one dollar for every spill sold until the leak has stopped flowing completely."
Bard said there are 37 different spills in the line altogether including the newest, the Baby Sippy Cup spill.
Funds will go to the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund, administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation. The Fund is described in detail at http://www.gnof.org/programs/gulf-coast-oil-spill-fund/disaster-on-the-gulf-coast/. The site also provides flyers, Web site links, press releases and other aids for business and groups that would like to donate to or raise money for the fund.
"The BP oil spill is a terrible catastrophe for our country," Bard added. "The upper Gulf region states, including our home state of Florida, are in need of support. Beaches are getting closed down and Gulf Coast Florida fisherman are now out of work. The rising cost of seafood is going to affect the entire country. The Florida economy has not been in good shape for some time - we experienced one of the biggest drops in housing values in the real estate market crash - but things were getting better. The oil spill is a big setback."
The spills and other products may be viewed at www.humphreysfarm.com. The company has also just released its first wholesale catalog in PDF format and upgraded its password-protected online shopping site.
We would love your feedback!
