Baby's Dream opens new Chilean factory

Baby's Dream held a drawing during the ABC Kids Expo in September for a trip to Chile. All retailers who visited the booth during the show were eligible to win. The grand prize, a trip to Chile for the opening of the company's newest manufacturing plant, went to Lullaby Lane, San Bruno, Calif.
The prize includes a tour of the new facilities in Lautaro, Chile, as well as visiting the local wineries and hot springs. Second prize, free floor models, went to USA Baby Pittsburgh and third prize, free shipping, went to Children's Fair, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Baby's Dream's new factory, a $6 million investment, is situated on 15 acres, includes all new machinery and employees about 250 people. The manufacturer has been keeping a low profile as it's been rebuilding and recovering from two fires earlier this year. The Chilean factory, completed at the end of October, has the capacity to make 300 cribs and 300 cases per shift from start to finish.
Initially the company had planned to source components from local contractors but increased its investment by $4 million to rebuild and retool its own facility.
"We see this as the best way to keep a competitive edge through controlling the entire manufacturing process during a time when many other manufacturers have taken on a semi-distributor role instead," said Kelly Kuch, Baby's Dream marketing executive.
Baby's Dream's factory opened at the end of October, ready to make 300 cribs and 300 cases per shift.
