Powell signs licensing deal with LittleMissMatched

Staff -- Kids Today, 10/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

Powell Co. has inked a licensing agreement with tween property LittleMissMatched for two bedroom collections that will debut during the High Point Market this month.

The groups follow the colorful design philosophy of LittleMissMatched, which broke onto the scene in the apparel market when it introduced bold mismatched socks sold in sets of three instead of pairs. The two Powell collections, composed of a wood group and a metal group, feature the property's vivid polka dot and stripe patterns and saturated color scheme.

"We've taken LittleMissMatched's core design philosophy that 'nothing matches but anything goes' and translated it into the world of youth bedroom furniture," said Anne Russell, vice president of merchandising for Powell. "Today's tween girl wants her bedroom to be fun, fashionable and ultimately transformable. Our LittleMissMatched collections allow her to make her room entirely her own and encourage her to express her individuality."

The metal collection is composed of 23 SKUs. The collection is finished in white, but gets shots of color from reversible panels that feature the property's trademark patterns and color themes. The panels can be removed and switched around, allowing tweens to customize the look. The collection includes several bed options such as a version with a unique rotating twin headboard. Other choices in the metal group are twin and full panel beds and twin and full lofts. Additional pieces include a rolling work station that folds a chair and storage drawer into a desk to maximize space and a storage unit with pull-out desk, which folds up and can be stored when not in use.

The wood group, also finished in white, is composed of 17 SKUs. The collection has reversible panels that peek through circular cutouts. Clear panels are also included so girls can showcase their favorite photos if they wish. The wood collection is surfaced with a dry erase material that allows tweens to further customize with their personal artwork. Bed options include twin and full with bookcase headboards and underbed storage drawers and twin and full panel beds.

Key retail price points for the line are $599 for twin and $799 for full in the loft bunk, $649 for the dresser, $599 for the chest, $399 for the desk and $349 for the rolling work station.

"Never before have kids been given permission to be as creative as they want to be, to redecorate their rooms as often as they like," said Jonah Staw, co-founder and CEO of LittleMissMatched.

The Powell collections join a roster of licensed LittleMissMatched products such as bedding, toys, books and sleepwear.

The wood version has a dry erase finish plus circular color cutouts and clear panels for ultimate custom options.

The metal version has reversible panels of stripes and dots.
