Clinton attends celebration marking K.I.D.S.' anniversary

Staff -- Kids Today, 1/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

Kids In Distressed Situations celebrated its 20th anniversary in November with a benefit dinner at the St. Regis Hotel here. As part of the evening's events, former President Bill Clinton accepted a check for $200,000 for continued tsunami relief and a $1 million pledge for product in 2006 for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

"I am honored to be receiving this donation for disaster relief from such a great organization," said Clinton. "K.I.D.S. does great work to help our nation's most precious resource, children. Children are often the most vulnerable victims of natural disasters and so I am glad we are helping today to give the gift of hope to these kids. I look forward to being a part of the K.I.D.S. effort and working with them to carry out their mission."

Kohl's Department Stores, American Girl and the Scholastic Corp., all prominent donors to K.I.D.S., were also honored at the celebration. Richard Robinson, CEO and president of Scholastic; Ellen L. Brothers, president of American Girl; and John L. Worthington, executive vice president of Stores, Kohl's, each received the Donor Award of Distinction. In addition, K.I.D.S. past and present chairmen — Michael Searles, Richard J. Miller, Douglas W. Hyde, Richard L. Markee, Gregory A. Sandfort and Gary F. Simmons — were honored for their service to the organization.
