Kalencom, best known for its fashion forward diaper bags, is getting back to its roots with its new logo. For more than 35 years the company has been based in New Orleans, where it suffered tremendous damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. Kalencom is bigger than ever and is celebrating its New Orleans heritage with a new logo — fleur de lis, symbol of New Orleans — which appears on its hangtags and some of its newest designs.
"When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in August 2005, our entire operation had to move as a result of tremendous damage to our factory. In addition, many of our employees were left homeless," said Monica Kalozdi, vice president. "Finding a new warehouse was the easy part...finding schools for children and medical support for families was far more challenging, but we knew we had to do this in order to make the transition as smooth as possible."
For the following nine months, Kalencom conducted business out of Florida and continued to attend trade shows and to take and fill orders according to the same schedule it had established in years past.
Now back in refurbished quarters, Kalencom has experienced record breaking growth since Hurricane Katrina. A long time supporter of the city of New Orleans, the company is embracing its heritage with the fleur de lis logo.
"For years no one knew where Kalencom was located; however, as a result of Katrina now everyone knows. We thought it only fitting that we celebrate the rebirth of New Orleans and remind everyone that this great city is also the home of Kalencom," said Kalozdi.
