On-trend looks for Mom & Dad

Diaper bags have come a long way during the past few years. Licensed characters and sweet pastel shades have been usurped by bold bags with fashion-forward looks that blend more seamlessly with hip moms and dads. Patterned bags in either vivid or subdued shades give a fun, sophisticated look to moms on the go. And for those moms used to carrying high-fashion designer bags, options such as metallic, croc, leather, patent, grommets and bold hardware keep them in style. And dads aren't left out, either. Those wanting more than a basic black messenger have their choice of camouflage, suede and heathered looks.

JP Lizzy's Cate tote hits a high style note with this croc design in a neutral au lait shade. The round handles are removable, allowing the bag to be re-attached over stroller handles, $98, (303) 641-3994.

Go Gaga's Slider bag features a patented ergonomic strap that distributes the weight of the bag across your back, and the flap-free design eases access into the bag, $90, (617) 875-2226.

The Lexie tote from Fleurville, made of the company's PVC-free Green-Lam material, is available in the tropical Tangerine Ogo pattern with silver metallic straps, bottom and trim, $164.95, (415) 482-8510.

Amy Michelle's Sweet Pea slouch bag, part of its new Chic collection, offers a choice of up-to-the-minute patent or a more classic chocolate jacquard pattern. The bag features two pockets and a zippered compartment on the front and storage on the sides, $135, (303) 279-0690.

Kalencom's stylish Ultimate Metallic tote is offered in bronze and silver. A changing pad, insulated bottle bag and zipper bag for clean clothes is tucked inside, $90, (800) 344-6699.

Skooch's dad-targeted Urban Cool bag has 12 pockets, including two side bottle pockets and a back pocket that holds the coordinating diaper pad. Offered in desert (shown) and camouflage, $130, (908) 247-7676.

The elegant Granada from Bananafish is made of textured flocked linen and features leather trim, brushed gold buckles and starfish studs. Also available in chocolate, $150, (800) 899-8689.

The updated Jessica messenger from the Bumble Collection is now stain-resistant and has a colored lining to make it easier to find items in the bag. The shoulder straps can be changed around to turn the bag into a backpack, shoulder bag or hanging stroller bag, $128, (626) 934-8600.

Petunia Pickle Bottoms created the Scout collection for dads. The Journey Pack, one of the bags in the group, has a heathered industrial felt exterior and comes with three bottle pockets, a cell phone pocket and stroller clips, $135, (805) 643-6697.

Skip Hop's City Chic features a removable clutch that can be worn as a wristlet. The matte laminated canvas and clutch are water resistant and offered in four patterns, including Park Ave Tulip (shown), $150, (212) 868-9850.
