University Loft plans to open a $22 million warehouse and manufacturing facility in Mount Comfort, Ind., this fall.
The manufacturer will expand with a 508,000-square-foot building less than 10 miles east of Indianapolis where University Loft is based. This location is in addition to the 600,000-square-foot plant in Morristown, Tenn., that handles upholstered furniture. The company, which employs about 220, also has a sales office in Malaysia.
The new Mount Comfort facility has designated 58,000 square feet devoted to showcasing furniture, using small vignettes to simulate how the pieces would work in a college dorm or hotel room. Another 20,000 square feet will be used to display sinks, tubs and plumbing solutions. ULC also plans to have a walking track, pond and coffee shop.
"This building represents a significant milestone for ULC," James Jannetides, President, said. "Competitors have looked at our unconventional ways of doing business and cannot understand why we continue to expand. It's always something new with us and I believe that is what has led to our success."
