A year in the pages of Kids Today

By Lina Perez and Victoria Vasile, Chocolate Milk, Miami -- Kids Today, 11/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

It's hard to believe that a full year has gone by.

Writing this monthly column has allowed us to not only record our professional but our personal highs and lows. It has allowed us to scrutinize a lot of our decisions and most certainly those having to do with our business.

Now that this monthly ritual has come to an end, it makes us think — will we continue to be as diligent with our progress? Will we continue asking ourselves the constant questions so that we might have an answer and/or a topic to serve as writing material in next month's column?

We have learned so much during this question and answer period here at Chocolate Milk that it has become something we will never stop doing. Great questions will always lead to great answers and ideas.

One of the most thought-provoking questions this year for us was should we examine the possibilities of being the manufacturer versus the retailer?

Both sides have their challenges, of course, but this year allowed us to examine how "we" really feel about being on the retail end of things.

We both come from long retail pasts but now realize that it's one thing to work for a retailer and quite another to own a retail business. We were comfortable with what we knew and for us it was a natural progression to open a retail store.

We love our store and that love has led us in a new-found direction that has us working on a project that will brand Chocolate Milk in the coming future. For us it's always an exciting time preparing for new roads and adventures.

Writing the Retail Diary kept us accountable and able to track our forward movement as well as our challenges along the way.

We suggest everyone try writing; it gives you a bit of history to look back upon. It's all about the documentation. A year happens so fast when you are busy and writing it down allows it not to become a blur. Committing to paper allows you to free up memory space for other things.

It was our honor to contribute our young and tender growing experiences and opinions with all of you readers of Kids Today. We met so many great people and so many of you took the time to call and share your business savvy with us. It was truly appreciated.

Be on the look out for Chocolate Milk's next adventure.

Peace, Lina & Victoria Chocolate Milk
