Halsall buys North American rights to Silver Cross strollers

Staff -- Kids Today, 8/1/2005 12:00:00 AM

Halsall International, the United Kingdom company that owns the Silver Cross trademark, has bought back the North American rights to the Silver Cross brand of strollers and baby goods from U.S.-based Silver Cross Baby.

Alan Halsall, managing director of Halsall International, said the decision to buy back the rights came from a desire to control the trademark on a worldwide basis with a concentrated effort toward a global branding strategy.

Shawn Buckley, CEO of Silver Cross Baby, obtained the license for Silver Cross in 2002 and brought the famed British brand stateside. Buckley began the company with the intention of building the brand and selling the rights, and company officials said the depth and breadth of the line expanded to an all-time high since the brand's inception in 1877 in England.

"I expected it would take a decade to build the Silver Cross brand recognition in the U.S. to where it is today," said Buckley. "I am pleased the name is held in such high regard as it returns to its U.K. roots under the control of Halsall International."
