Ireland writes, narrates children's book

By Gerri Hunt -- Kids Today, 1/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

Kathy Ireland has added a new title to her resume: children's book author.

Her first title, "An Angel Called Hope," has been published as part of the popular Story Reader line for preschoolers. These electronic books read themselves aloud as children turns each page, with no buttons to press. They have been touted as "the next best thing to a parent's lap."

"An Angel Called Hope" is about an angel who helps two little girls cope with loneliness, form a friendship and regain their faith and hope. Varying life circumstances bring Sarah (who speaks only English) and Anita (who speaks only Spanish) together. The angel guides them as they learn to communicate with each other and become friends.

Ireland narrates the full-color, 24-page book, which is the first one in the Story Reader collection written by a celebrity.

"When kids watch their parents enjoy reading, it's a powerful motivator to incorporate reading into their lives," said Ireland, a mother of three children, ages 2 to 10. "Family Reading Night will help form lifelong reading habits that will have lasting benefits, while helping families reclaim special time together."

"An Angel Called Hope" is available at retailers, bundled with two other Story Reader books, "Mona's Favorite Words" and "What Do Mommies Do?" The pack retails for $19.99.

Kathy Ireland's book has been published as part of Story Reader, an electronic book series.
