CPSC Recalls

Staff -- Kids Today, 5/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

April

  • McNair Technology Co. Ltd. of China, Unitech Battery Ltd. of China, and Memcorp Inc. of Weston, Fla., are voluntarily recalling about 102,000 battery packs sold with Disney®-brand DVD players. The battery packs sold with these DVD players can overheat and possibly burst when recharging, posing a risk of burns.

  • Trendset Originals of New York is voluntarily recalling about 1,700 "Who's That Girl!" sweaters. A drawstring is threaded through the hood of the garment, posing a strangulation hazard to children.

March

  • Brio Corp. of Germantown, Wis., a subsidiary of Brio AB of Sweden, is voluntarily recalling about 2,100 Brio pull-along snails. The snail toy is sold with a rattle containing a bell. The rattle can come apart, and the bell poses a small parts choking hazard to young children.

  • The Little Tikes Co. of Hudson, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 20,800 Glowin' Dino and Glowin' Doggy animal flashlights. The light green paint on the dinosaur-shaped flashlight and the brown paint on the dog-shaped flashlight could contain excess levels of lead.

  • Rose Art Inds. of Livingston, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 3.8 million Magnetix Magnetic building sets. Tiny magnets inside the plastic building pieces and rods can fall out. Magnets found by young children can be swallowed or aspirated. If more than one magnet is swallowed, the magnets can attract to each other and cause intestinal perforation or blockage, which can be fatal. This product is unsuitable for young children.

  • Kids Preferred of Dayton, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 3,500 Primary Sounds toy vehicles. The hubcaps on the toy's plastic wheels can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

  • American Girl Inc. of Middleton, Wis., a division of Mattel Inc. of El Segundo, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 180,000 pieces of American Girl children's jewelry. The recalled jewelry contains high levels of lead.

  • SSC Inc. of Fairfield, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 4,000 Safe-Seat Plus Model infant seats for shopping carts. These seats can have a white chalky powder or residue on their surface. It is the UV absorber that has separated from the seat due to a molding defect that affected some seats produced in one or more molding runs. This could cause skin irritation to children who come into contact with the residue.

  • RadioShack Corp., of Fort Worth, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 25,000 Child Guidance toy pliers. The toy's sliding yellow knob can detach, posing a choking hazard to children.
